Description and Functions


The Wyoming Highway Patrol/Port of Entry is seeking a temporary Port of Entry Technician in Frannie, WY. The Port of Entry works to enhance safety and preserve the highway infrastructure and provide a variety of services essential to commercial vehicle operation into, within and throughout the state.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Work the counter at Port of Entry and inspect the paperwork of commercial carrier drivers.

  • Collect fees, maintain and reconcile a cash drawer daily.

  • Weigh and measure trucks to ensure compliance with rules, regulations, and statute.

  • Verify and issue permits to commercial carriers.

  • These employees spend considerable time in a training setting with the Training Officer, learning the requisite policies and procedures of the Port of Entry system.



Preference may be given to those with one (1) year of customer service experience, office communication experience and the attributes listed below under "Knowledge".


  • Knowledge of use of computers, typing and ten key, applying knowledge in evaluating and decision making.

  • Knowledge of state and federal commercial carrier rules, regulations and statutes.

Necessary Special Requirements


  • This position entails shift work which may include weekends and holidays, and may be specific to a particular location.

  • This position will also be required to work outside, and in inclement weather at times.


  • FLSA: Non-exempt

  • This is a temporary position that will not exceed 9 months of consecutive employment.

  • All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018 are required to be paid hourly.
